Filming makes me hate yoyoing

fitting into a shot you cant see. wind. strangers thinking your acting weird while you lurk around setting up your gear. kids running up to watch and kick over your camera.
i hate filming in public by myself.
im filming the rest of my vids in outre space where i dont have to worry about that kind of thing, not to mention getting increased spin times.

PSW 9-4-10/New Rules/Weekley Challenge4

1st. Pete. really got a his style across better and had tons of it. The yoyo was everywhere and expressed petes inner steezington.

2nd. Leo. let the bird out of the cage more often to keep the crowd on the edge of its seat.

3rd. Ibs. really goes for it. always has a plethora of stuff you wont see again.

4th. Jewell. despite being most consistent and getting way more hits than the rest of us.

5th. Alex AND Eddie. for rocking well in an unfamiliar environment.

6th. Me. String tension and lack of cadence/no music F'd me more than that bench gap.

7th. Colin. Honorary Looser. Too Stinky. No proper handycap system yet. But we all know he is King Shizzle.

New Rules:

5 minute Pre-Contest Warning for new string/get hyped

3 rounds:

1st: "The Simulator"; Clicked, unstylish point whoring, if you must. Everyone needs a chance to get better in standard comps. Scored for your knowledge/benefit. Judged on style.
But we can ONLY CLICK ONE ROUND cause you dont get a second chance in contests. Then you get to think about how bad you did. Just like in real life. The Joy of Victory, the Agony of Defeat. Can we get on with the good part now? Thaaaanks (that was soooo boring).

2nd: Steez 1. First round of trying to stank. Weekly challenge. Whatever you want, but you only get three lines.

3rd. Steez 2. Go for broke.

Next Weeks Challenge: Three String Hits Only!!!
How much can you get out of three string hits? Trapeze->one and a half mount is three string hits. So is TMNTC->behind the back trapeze->suicide. Get it? Milk it for all its worth. No, binds dont count unless they add or drop a string.

We need music. Ill try to remember my speakers.

PDX Style Wars 7-13-10 Results

1st. Clifton for being way way more creative and stylish even though he didnt land a damn thing. He was spinnin around and caught a dead throw on the side of his hand, and we were like OOOOOH!.

2nd. Jewel for being suave and putting cadence on his lines. Techy but with a groove.
3rd. Count Dangkula speedy, lots of string hits, medicine flying out his pockets.
4th. Ibrahim. he has that deliberate tempo and creates variations deep into mounts i dont even want to start trying to learn. Its not fair.
5th. Pete for performing well under pressure and getting his point across better than...
Last. Justin Sweet Pancakes/Moldy Syrup Cronin for being crabby and trying tricks he had only thought about instead of the tricks he was like "oh yeah, i should show this new variation to Ibs" But NOOOOO! (Ill crush it one of these times.)

Adam Had 'em

I remember when Colin called me and told me about this good hearted dude that came crawlin out of the woods with a bunch of responsive plastic yoyos with microscopic bearings who had a completely outsider style of his own. I didnt believe him until I actually got to meet Adam. His video for the Spyyyy contest is far and away the best and I will eat my hat if he doesnt win. This makes me want to throw responsive. But Id rather watch him.

Good Hanging Out Today

Everyone who hit the park today, it was a great meet. It was amazing to stand and watch everybody's tricks. We have all come a long way in such a short time.

And the winner is....

Portland Styyle War 6.19.10 Results

Fun-A Division:
1st: Cool in the Gangland Leland/Colin for Redonk-gondol-iscious steez which showed that secret bangers with mass appeal win the show. Pretty much what the styyle wars is about. Totally crushed it.
2nd: Leo, he's better looking than vin diesel but he's just as fast and furious.
3rd: Ibs, consistent balance of tech and steez/best hair/best t shirt
4th: Jewel, thug life.
5th: Justin, cant yoyo/best new shoes.

Isnt it scary getting up on a bench and yoyoing in front of your pals?
Both weeks now, one player has pulled away by out steezing the rest. Stock tricks dont fly, as we have all seen them before, so a precedent for stylisticly pushing it been set. You know I like crazy out of the box stuff, so if you want to win, then go nuts.

Till i can find a blank wrestling belt store, im making a really stupid looking crown for the winner of next weeks Styyle Wars.

Adobe After Affects Test: Ramped Slow Motion

I am pretty sure one day I heard people talking about skateboarding, so if you used to skate or watch skating videos you probably know what this affect is...well I put this affect into use for this yoyoing clip!

the new freehand

So, I was out running errands the other day and decided to head to toys R us. I always like to make the rounds to see what yoyos are on the streets (this is how I found Adam at Walgreens). I found their yoyo display after walking around for 10 minutes, and I was super excited to see new packaging with Brandon Jackson on it. These were the new freehands with stock recessed pads. I bought two.

The translucent lime green is killer under a black light, and the translucent greyish purple is really interesting. It looks black, but whenever light makes it through, it looks purple.

The pad recess is what I was hoping for since this yoyo came out. I started yoyoing the week that freehand 2s were recieved by my local juggling shop in Eugene. I had to wait two weeks for a yoyo on backorder.

I was glad to play with the yoyo that I was throwing when I got started so many years ago.

The yoyo throws smoother than the old generation with the bad mold flash [the first release without the rubber weight ring]. The new freehand feels great in the hand. It exhibits a lot of the great mold work of the FHZ. The rubber plugs under the side caps have been abandoned, but the axle is longer to fill the space so there isn't too much axle movement from side to side. I wish they had considered the axle falling out if the caps aren't on the yoyo [I will be playing the translucent purple one capless].

The recesses aren't super deep, they are just deep enough. I always like to feel the pads a little bit during spins, it gives the yoyo personality. They yoyo plays well with one pad in, or with both pads in. Duncan's new silicone pads are another option for lower response [I'm testing this theory out because I think they might actually be more aggressive than the standard friction stickers].

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video must be worth me shutting up.

Director Park- 13 March

Hi guys, i've just been sponsored by String Theory Yoyos (the guys who made the Remnant), and I was wondering if you'd be interested in trying out some product and helping me make a video on the 13th of March in Director Park. The 13th is a Saturday, and it should be cloudy, but not rainy (that said, that could and probably will change. In any case, we've got that bit under the psychadelic light show roof to huddle under if it does rain). I'm thinking Noon will work again, but let me know if you've got a better time.
